Freeview and MySky Question
« on: 09, March 2012, 03:48:59 PM »
Hi,

Hoping someone can clarify a couple of things for me.  I have MySky connected to my TV via HDMI. I just purchased a TV for the bedroom with built in FreeView.  My plan was to split the satellite cable so that it runs to the MySky and to the bedroom TV.

But, what would be really nice would be to get the signal from the MySky to the bedroom TV. I know that I would not be able to watch different Sky channels on both TVs...but if I can watch Sky on  the main TV and FreeView in the bedroom independently - and also be about to watch a Sky channel on both TVs and have MySky playback on both TVs - that would be the desired solution.

OK. So all that being said. Can I run a cable out of the back of my MySky decoder to my bedroom TV that will give me FreeView support and let me watch the selected Sky channel?

Thanks!

Yes, you can do that, you will need to take the composite output from the MySky to an
RF Modulator, then run a cable to the aerial cable and use a 2 way splitter to combine the signals (RF output of the Sky receiver and UHF channels from your aerial). Once you have done that you can tune in the channel the MySky outputs along with the freeview channels.

Ah I see.  So the signal from the MySky will just appear as another channel on the new TV.  Very smart.

I can even add this into the mix at a later stage. Buy the splitter and get the new TV running with FreeView, then get the RF Modulator and simply add it in when/if we need it :)

Thanks for the very quick response. I appreciate it.

Yes no problem to do it that way.

Hi Loops99,

Slight problem there! The Freeview that's built into new TVs is "Terrestrial Freeview" and runs off a UHF aerial - Totally different to Satellite Freeview.

So you'll need to instal a UHF aerial (if you pick up a UHF signal) and run that cable into the bedroom. Then, at a later date, you can fit the external modulator at the MySky, run a cable to the bedroom and combine the two feeds using a splitter in reverse, or a UHF/UHF/VHF Combiner (if they're still available).

Cheers,    Wild Bill.

This is correct, my assumption above was that you had a UHF aerial feeding the freeview TVs.
