Who can receive the Freeview Digital Service?
All New Zealanders can get Freeview Digital TV via satellite. Once
you have purchased a Free to Air or Freeview Satellite Set Top Box and, if you
need one, installed a satellite dish, you can watch and listen to Freeview's
channels for free on any TV.
Freeview HD is available via UHF aerial only. Please see the coverage maps to check if Freeview HD is available in
your area.
What channels are available on Freeview? The Freeview Digital Service via satellite includes the following
channels: TV One, TV2, TV3, C4, Maori Television, TV3+1, Prime, TVNZ6, TVNZ7,
Stratos, Parliament TV, Cue, Te Reo, George FM, Radio New Zealand National and
Radio New Zealand Concert. The Freeview HD Service via UHF aerial includes the following
channels: TV One, TV2, TV3, C4, Maori Television, TV3+1, Prime, TVNZ6, TVNZ7,
Parliament TV, tvCentral (Waikato/BOP only), Chinese TV 8, Radio New Zealand
National and Radio New Zealand Concert. The free to air Freeview channels can be
accessed with any Freeview or Free to Air Set top Box available from
Freeviewshop.
I have an existing Satellite Dish, can I receive Freeview?
Anyone with an existing dish that is aligned to the Optus D1
Satellite can simply plug in a set top box to receive the new Freeview service.
You do not need to align the dish.
How do I align a new satellite dish?
For those who need a dish, dish alignment is easy. All the set top
boxes available on Freeviewshop have a satellite strength and quality display.
Alternatively, a satellite strength meter can be purchased. The compass reading
for dish setting is approx. 315 degrees on a simple compass (slightly, West of
North).
Can I have Freeview as well as Sky?
Yes SKY uses the same polarity as Freeview and you can
operate Sky set top boxes and Free to Air or Freeview set top
boxes on the same dish at the same time. You can either use the
Loop Out of the Free to Air set top box and connect the Sky set top box to it or
use a splitter to connect both set top boxes to the dish. We recommend use of
power pass all ports splitters.
Can I watch Freeview on more than one
television?
The best option is to connect a separate set top box for each TV.
Here the signal from the dish has to be split using a splitter. In some cases an
amplifier is needed to ensure a good level of signal at all outlets, please call
for advice. The benefit of installing multiple set-top boxes is that they
operate independently from each other so you can watch a different channel in
each room.
Can I record freeview?
Digital Satellite can be recorded using a Personal Video Recorder
(PVR). A PVR allows you to record TV or radio signals from the satellite, and
then play them back whenever you wish. Click here to see PVR options. You can also use a DVD
recorder or VCR with a standard set top box.
What output connection should I use?

quality.
